The Bürgerschule Weimar at the northwestern corner of Goetheplatz and the entrance to Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse was the first urban elementary school building in the city of Weimar and was built primarily on the initiative of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. At that time it was the most modern school in Weimar and made a decisive contribution to the improvement of primary education.
