The Albani Cemetery is located south of Cheltenham Park in the immediate vicinity of the Göttingen city wall. This complex was built in 1783 on the former city fortifications. Until 1881 the cemetery was used by the Albani and Nikolai communities and the St. Crucius Hospital, until 1902 there were still isolated burials.

In addition to Carl Friedrich Gauss, other important personalities also found their final resting place here.

The combination of old trees and interspersed tombstones gives the Albani cemetery the character of a park that invites you to walk and linger.

The swan pond adjacent to the northwest is the last remnant of the water-filled ditch system of the city fortifications. For many years it fulfilled its task as a fire extinguishing pond. It was last repaired in 1996 and a water fountain was installed. It forms an attractive transition to Cheltenhampark, which in its current form, realized around 1965, forms a contrasting ensemble with Rohn's bathhouse.
