Top cycling routes to Mittelland Canal

Tips

  • With a length of approx. 325 km (392 km including branch and connecting canals), the Mittelland Canal 🚢 is the longest artificial federal waterway. It branches off the Dortmund-Ems Canal in the "Wet Triangle" near Bergeshövede (North Rhine-Westphalia) and merges into the Elbe-Havel Canal east of Hohenwarthe (Saxony-Anhalt).There is no official cycle path on the Mittelland Canal. However, the operating routes along the canal are mostly open to 🚶🏻 and 🚴🏻 at your own risk. These paths are quite well developed, sometimes with compacted gravel, paved or even asphalted.Depending on where you are, you can make a short detour to the left ⬅️ or right ➡️ to find nice rest areas 🛖 and cozy places to stop for refreshments 🍔🍟🍻.
