According to historical information, the "image" of St. Catherine was discovered in the Hermigua Valley in the 16th century. Some stories tell that the conqueror Juan Rejon is said to have died there. The "picture" used to be on the access road to the Davit from Hermigua. Because of the strong surf, however, it was moved to its current location.
