Great rest area with a view over Kelbra and Rothenburg, and even to the Brocken on a clear day. There is also a wild and romantic hiking trail via the Rothenburg to the Kyffhäuser. Unfortunately, the 11th-century castle is privately owned and not accessible, but a visit to the Kyffhäuser Monument is worthwhile.

Very nice view of the Rothenburg, which unfortunately cannot be walked on.

Rothenburg / Kyffhäuser – an old count's castle – (394 m above sea level) is located west of Kyffhausen Castle on a northern spur of the Kyffhäuser Mountains, sloping steeply on three sides. It owes its name to the red sandstone used in its construction. It is still unknown when, by whom, and on whose behalf the castle was built. The first recorded mention of Christian von Rothenburgk dates back to 1103 in connection with the murder of a count from Beichlingen. Throughout its history, Rothenburg has experienced a turbulent history.

Rothenburg is now privately owned. The grounds have been closed to the public since August 2010!
