Zemst-Laar or Laar is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, in the west of the municipality of Zemst. It is located between the villages of Zemst, Zemst-Bos, Humbeek and Hombeek. The village centre of Zemst-Laar has only 650 inhabitants, including the nearby houses this is about 900.
In the late 18th century the village is mentioned both as Laer under Sempse or as Sempse Laer. From the end of the 19th century this became Sempst Laer and remained so until after the Second World War. After that, in accordance with modern Dutch spelling, it was adapted to Zemst-Laar.
The word laar is a toponym for a "wooded, marshy terrain". Because the toponym Laar is common, the suffix "Zemst" is often added, to indicate that one means the village of Laar located in Zemst.
