The old lighthouse was built in 1907 on the Klintbarg in Sandkrug. Architect was Arnold Bruhn. The building consists of a rectangular keeper's house with a large lamp room on the upper floor. The beacon, first powered by a kerosene lamp, was electrified in 1926. The identifier was generated with an Otterblende.

Six years after it was commissioned, the Imperial Navy built the Eckernförde torpedo testing facility directly beneath the lighthouse. The guidance sector now led directly through the torpedo firing range. Since the lighthouse could not be moved so easily, a corresponding warning sector was set up temporarily. This temporary solution only changed in 1986, when a new lighthouse was built more than seventy years later. The last lighthouse keeper left the building on September 30, 1986. The rooms were then converted into holiday apartments for the employees of the water and shipping authorities.
