The parish of Berkach can look back on a long tradition. Berkach was first mentioned in a document as early as 1035.
When the Landgraviate of Hesse was divided among the heirs of Philip the Magnanimous in 1567, Berkach came to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt. After Berkach was burned down by "German soldiers" in 1672, the church was restored in 1688 and made accessible to the local population.
Since then, the church and the community have experienced some ups and downs and the church in Berkach was last renovated in 1999/2000.
