Tips

  • You can see these pretty animals everywhere. But the background is not donkey breeding. It comes from the donkey knights who lived on the Madenburg. They had a donkey on their clothes.

  • A great scavenger hunt for the children, because many of these beautiful and lovingly painted donkeys adorn the place. The story goes that the donkey knights once lived on the Madenburg and used these animals instead of horses. 38 donkeys can be found throughout Eschbach - on the street, in squares, in front gardens and in courtyards. But no two are alike! Each donkey is individual, designed with a lot of imagination by small and large hands, sponsored by private individuals, companies or clubs and of course each has a name.

  • Leone in LöwenthalA trendy "Zebresel" and the colorful "Leone" from Löwental
Strikingly designed gray animals join the ranks of famous works of art in major cities.
Today, "Leone" and "Zebresel" are introducing themselves, having patiently waited for this moment for weeks before Marktplatz regional concludes the series next week.
The two donkeys are standing far apart: Leone in Löwental, Zebresel at Trifelsring. However, they were allowed to present themselves together on the same float during the donkey parade.
"Leone" is also joining the artistic crowd in Löwental, checking the many visitors on their way to Madenburg Castle and the sports field. His proud owners, Erika and Ludwig Antemann, always enjoy their donkey during their visits to Eschbach.
He owes his striking appearance to Christel Gleimann. Leone. Many interesting works were created in her artist's studio in Landau, which she presented to an interested audience at numerous exhibitions. For "Leone," the artist used bold colors. The donkey is adorned with a colorful saddle blanket and a bright red bridle, a native vine entwined around its body. Between them, a lion's head suggests Leone's location.
"Leone" and "Zebresel," identical in shape but completely different in appearance, also contribute to the donkey parade in the "Donkey Village" exuding a very special artistic flair. (Source: "Die Rheinpfalz" - Marktplatz Regional)
