Here you come across the Ems in a very unique way. The "Leher Pünte" is one of two rope-bound ferries across the Ems. It takes you to the other bank for little money from the beginning of May to October.

    Timetable:

Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,

during the holidays also on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

You can find more information at leher-puente.de.

On the Emsradwanderweg from Dörpen to Herbrum, which is wonderful to ride, you pass a special highlight: the Leher Pünte.

Here you can not only rest and watch the hustle and bustle of the hiking activities, but also always on Sundays and public holidays in the time

FROM MAY 1 TO OCTOBER 3

      for the symbolic

      PRICE from 1.- EURO (children 0.5 €)

take the hand-drawn ferry across the Ems on foot or by bike. The "Püntenpatent", which is otherwise difficult to acquire, can also be acquired here for a measly 7.5 euros (children 4.5 euros).

The ferry connection with the Dortmund-Ems Canal was originally established in 1900. Because the canal now divided the municipality of Lehe, first mentioned around 1400, into two parts. Thanks to the Pünte, farmers could continue to reach their fields and pastures beyond the waterway. It was not until the 1960s that the ferry service stopped, as modern agricultural vehicles had become too big and too heavy for the boat.

The ferry service has been running at the same location again since 2001. Leher Pünte is now continuing the tradition of river ferries across the Ems through the non-profit association. After all, in ancient times there were only a few bridges, but there were many ferries.

Further information can be found at the Leher Pünte e.V. association or, for example, from the Pünten guides Jan and Bernd, as can be seen on one of the numerous photos.

The hand-operated "Leher Pünte" cable ferry is close to Heede and Lehe on the Ems. By ringing a bell or shouting "Haol aower", two ferrymen take the ferry across the Ems on the opposite bank. For one euro per person including bike, you can be ferried over.
