The National Monument MH17 is a memorial forest with a memorial to the plane crash of flight MH17 on July 17, 2014 in which 298 people died.298 trees in the shape of a green ribbon have been planted. In front of each tree is a plaque with a number, name, age and nationality of a victim on it.
The forest is surrounded by a wreath of thousands of sunflowers.At the heart of the ribbon of trees is an amphitheater with the memorial. The memorial bears the names of the victims in the form of a spiral.
Viewed from above, the memorial is shaped like an eye looking out into the sky.The official unveiling of the monument took place on 17 July 2017 by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, exactly three years after the disaster.
