The current St. Agatha Church was built between 1890 and 1892 and has an interesting history: a previous building was badly damaged in a major fire in 1882. In 1884 the new building began. Shortly before the church was completed, the church tower collapsed.

On the site of today's church there was a parish church, first mentioned in 1188, which has undergone several alterations. The church was severely damaged by a major fire in Epe in October 1882, so that a new building was decided. In 1884 the new church began to be built according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Rincklake. Due to the collapse of the church tower, the construction of which had been carried out improperly, the construction work on the church dragged on until the consecration of the shell could take place in 1892. Repairs were made in 1934 and the 1950s, removing the paintings inside the church.
