Wild through the Wildertse dunes.
Arrived on the right track by train in Wildert – Essen.
Calm... 'wood' holding on to the 'Steenweg' and with luck we reach the Wildertse dunes after 500 meters.
We enthusiastically discover the old clay pit, the heathland and the swamp forest in the former domain of Baron Van Dijck.
The weekend is just around the corner and we are going to sniff the atmosphere along the many weekend houses.
In hopes of blessing, we enter the monastery garden of the Redemptorists through a small hole in the fence. A beautiful island in the green where all spiritual ingredients are present. Along tight and winding paths you will discover the Sacred Heart Chapel, cemetery, Lourdes grotto, old orchard, historic grape conservatory, gazebo and water features.
The 'Garden of Eden' created at the beginning of the 20th century for retired brothers can now be visited freely. School students now fill the vacant spaces in the monastery complex.
We return along the 'Memorial Path' in the Patersboske.
Patersboske, a place where joy and sorrow come together in the 'Birth forest and the Planttroost'.
We just can't get rid of the north, the national border is within reach. We wisely return along the Bosleerpad through the Wildertse dunes.
Satisfied and full of enthusiasm we choose the right track and head home.

Walking in the Wildertse Duintjes Nature reserve in Essen-Wildert where a forest learning path of about 3 km has been constructed. The terrain is hilly and planted with deciduous and pine trees. The lively frog pond is teeming with toads and salamanders.
