The Lindenberg is the north-west part of the Ohm Mountains. The mountain area is part of the Duderstadt Basin. The geological basis is predominantly middle colored sandstone. The mountains located on the Lindenberg are Nonnecke, Auf der Höchte, Lindenberg and Thomasberg. The central main part of the forest is the Duderstadt forest, which was formerly managed by the forester's house Lindenberg. After 1945, use by the city of Duderstadt was restricted and completely stopped when the border was expanded.
After reunification, the forest is used again by the city of Duderstadt.
