In the cemetery of the lay servants of the Salem monastery in Stefansfeld, Abbot Stephan I (1698 – 1725) had the chapel of St. Maria vom Victory built as a cemetery, votive and memorial church to commemorate the defense against the Turks in front of Vienna in 1683 and the completed one Restoration of the monastery, most of which had fallen victim to a catastrophic fire in 1697. The chapel was built between 1707 and 1710 under the direction of Franz Beer, who also provided the plans for the monastery's reconstruction.(Source: kath-salem.de)
