Whether you're making short or long walks from Heiligenberg, it's always worth stopping by the Schweizerhaus (Swiss House). It's an imposing building, offering magnificent views of the valley.

Once the stable and dairy of the Fürstenberg family, the Schweizerhaus in Heiligenberg has a varied history. The lower level once housed the stable and dairy, while the upper floor was a beautiful, stately banqueting and dining hall for the von Fürstenberg family.

Since 1834, the multi-story timber structure, built in the Bernese country house style, has been a significant feature of the landscaped grounds of Heiligenberg Castle and is considered one of the municipality's landmarks. Prince Karl Egon II of Fürstenberg had the stately building constructed with wooden shingles, ornate arcades, and a hipped roof, as well as the magnificent dining hall with elaborate woodwork such as wainscoting and a coffered ceiling. At that time, the dairyman lived in the residential part of the Schweizerhaus, while the outbuildings served as a stable and dairy.

After the Second World War, dance classes for the youth of Heiligenberg were held in the princely banqueting and dining hall. The court gardener, among others, also lived in the charming country house on the south slope. Between 1977 and 2008, the house served as a residence and workshop for the van Dijk and Bay violin-making families.

After years of vacancy and countless acts of vandalism, the Schweizerhaus underwent a comprehensive renovation over a two-year period. Since 2016, it has been permanently occupied by the new owner family.

Beautifully situated Swiss house in the heart of the Heiligenberg Forest. The wooden house is a real eye-catcher. 🤩
