These once imposing structures, destroyed in several wars during the 17th century, are separated only by the Lieser River, which carves a spirited path through the densely wooded, rocky landscape in the valley. A meadow stretches between the castles, which—equipped with a barbecue hut—becomes a perfect spot in summer for a break while hiking the Eifelsteig trail or for a family picnic with children.
