Carl August Schramm from Zittau built it in 1847/48 as a replacement for the previous building, which was destroyed in the city fire of 1842, in Italian-style arched forms in the style of a Venetian palazzo. Designs by Karl Friedrich Schinkel served as a template. The symmetrical three-storey building dominating the market square is dominated by a 40-meter-high, centrally placed, slender tower with a square floor plan, with pinnacles adorning the corners. The red plaster facade is square and has a diamond pattern (Wikipedia).

Beautifully restored building, particularly striking due to its architectural style. Quite unusual for this area.
