Vilaflor is 1,400 meters above sea level, making it the highest town on the island. You can catch your breath here before you climb the last few meters to the Teide. Many cyclists take a break here and enjoy the wonderful view. A short tour of the village is also worthwhile. There are many delicious restaurants - but you should only treat yourself to them on the way back, otherwise it will be difficult to pedal up the mountain on a full stomach.
