historical
Elstra was owned by the von Ponickau family from 1308 to 1683. After a fire in 1608, the castle was rebuilt and structurally changed. In 1683 Elstra Castle was sold to the von Knoch family. They kept the castle in family ownership until 1922, with the daughter Countess von Lynar and subsequently the von Hartmann-Knoch family being owners from 1802 to 1814. In 1902 the castle fell victim to a fire again and was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style the following year. In 1922 it came to Heinrich von Helldorf. Since then, the castle has only rarely been inhabited. At the beginning of the Second World War, a convalescent home for war wounded was set up in Elstra Castle.

After 1945
After the von Helldorf family was expropriated in 1945, the castle served as a TBC spa facility and was used as a hospital until 1990.

post-reunification time
In 1996 Ernst Laabs acquired Elstra Castle. under him an extensive renovation of Elstra Castle took place. It was later sold to a company.

Todays use
Elstra Castle is now the seat of the Friedrich-Franz Prince of Prussia Marketing-Consulting GmbH.
