"... There used to be a Hindenburg monument on the Reifershardt in Windeck. It was erected between 1914 and 1924 by students from the former Otto-Kühne-School (today: Bodelschwingh-Gymnasium Herchen) in honor of Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg. The monument lay between the Oberhaus, the main building of the local school, and the earlier castle of Reifershardt The bronze Hindenburg relief, a work of the sculptor Melchior von Hugo, was donated by the von Hugo vom Igelshof family.
At the end of the Second World War, the monument was severely damaged by aerial bombs. The bronze relief image was stolen in the post-war period. The loose stones of the monument were later removed. Only the viewing platform has been preserved and today offers a beautiful view over the Siegtal valley at Herchen station. ..."
