Harpstedt was supplied with electricity from here until the end of the Second World War. The mill was in operation until 1962. Today the mill belongs to the hotel "Zur Wasserburg" as a restaurant and café. However, a non-operational water wheel still reminds us of the old days. The Harpstedt water mill was built as a moated castle by the Count of Neubruchhausen in the 13th century. During the Thirty Years' War, destruction was prevented at the last moment. The mill was built from scratch in 1712 and was used exclusively as a grain mill. In 1907 the mill was equipped with turbines and supplied Harpstedt with electricity until the end of the Second World War.
