"The Deiler Mühle is located in the Kupferdreh district of Essen, at Nierenhoferstraße 24 - about 200 meters north-east of the so-called Deilbachhammer. The mill, which is now a listed building, was first mentioned in a document in 1522. The mill buildings date from the 18th/19th century The structure is still in operation, however the mill is no longer driven by water power but by an electric motor for grinding fodder for a fodder store. The mill type is undershot. Watermills are divided into undershot and overshot mills according to the drive on the shovel boards attached to the mill wheel and thus set the mill wheel in a continuous turning motion, which drove the mill.
The Deiler Mühle is the oldest surviving water mill in the Essen city area and at the same time the only one that still has its complete historical machine inventory. It was probably created together with the immediately neighboring Deilmannschen farm, which was already mentioned in the 14th century. However, the Deiler Mühle is only documented for the year 1522. The water of the Deilbach once provided the energy to initially drive mills and later also hammer mills. The Deiler mill can generally only be viewed from the outside."

The path just before the mill is closed off, but the mill is within sight.
