The Börnersee was created in 1850 from the clay pit for the first Borgsdorf brickworks not far from the Birkenwerder brickworks. There were orchards, a riverside path with tables/seats and two fish ponds. After 1945, the fence fell into disrepair and residents were able to use the lake without hindrance. From 1970 onwards, it became the "property of the people". The natural bathing areas remained and the lake became a fishing club water. In winter, it was often an ice skating paradise.
Since 2015, the lake has been gradually renovated and made available to residents.
