With around 1,600 hectares, this landscape conservation area is the largest within the city of Oldenburg; Adjoining areas in the district of Ammerland up to Rastede also belong to these landscape protection areas. It is characterized by the natural environment of the spacious, flat Huntemarsch zur Geest, which clearly stands out from the marsh with a dense wall hedge network, wooded areas, numerous arable land and a geest-typical irregular ground relief with wet hollows and ponds. The old settlement area is characterized by beautiful village structures and tree-lined courtyards. The protection of the landscape therefore also takes into account the great cultural and historical significance of the area.
