The pond was created in the 13th century by Herrenalber monks. These maintained a farmyard in Oberderdingen and operated it as a fishpond. Around the lake, which is today in a conservation area, you will find the "Brown Cyprus grass" or the "Radiant Bidentate".

The Bernhardsweiher, a fish pond created by monks, is relatively hidden in summer. Fish were bred here until the rapid-transit railway was built below. Today it is a refuge for rare plants and animals.

A nature reserve is looked after by the BUND. The animals that live there are shown on an information board. We saw a swimming grass snake. :-)
