In 1929 about nine burial mounds were discovered on the southwestern slope of the mountain, three of which were archaeologically examined in 1930 and 1951. Individual shards and a small amount of cremation could be secured, which allow dating to the 11th to 12th centuries. Only four mounds remain. The burial mounds could be related to the sepulcrum (= burial place) droszowicoph, which is mentioned in the Upper Lusatia border document from 1241.

In 1865, a surveying point of the first order of the Royal Saxon triangulation was set up on the mountain as Station No. 3 Jauernick. The stone pillar, which is still preserved today, bears the inscription Astronomical-Geodetic Station at Jauernick of the Central European grading Prussia 1865.

On the summit of the Black Mountain there is a surveying station of the triangulation in the Kingdom of Saxony from 1862 to 1890, at which, starting from the Grossenhainer baseline, Saxony was covered with triangles and re-measured in this way. The Jauernick station was on Prussian territory, and this station connected the state networks of Saxony and Prussia. A little further down the path there is a very good information board.

Due to the lack of 'real' paths, the ascent requires some caution in wet weather. Coming from Jauernick, you pass a really worthwhile information board about the "Historic Gardmessungssäule" on the Schwarzer Berg.
