On December 18, 218 BC. an important battle of the Second Punic War took place here. To challenge the Roman troops of the consul Tiberius and the Carthaginian ones of Hannibal, strong of several elephants. For this reason, the statue that commemorates that battle is an elephant, erected in 2012.

Bearing in mind the historical period to which the image refers, it shows us how advanced the battle techniques of the Carthaginians were.
They used the Elephants as real tanks ante litteram, on which operated
a specialized crew. Alongside the Elephants, almost certainly, the infantry advanced (even if it is not seen here)
