Solbrig was one of the co-founders of the Chemnitzer Aktienspinnerei on what is now Postplatz. Around 1860 he bought back the spinning mill in Altchemnitz (near Solbrigstrasse, which was named after him), which he initially operated as a branch of the Harthau factory, but from 1863 onwards traded under the name C. F. Solbrig Söhne.
Solbrig was buried in the family crypt in the Harthau cemetery.
