This chapel was built in 1946 to commemorate the more than 100 resistance fighters killed in the region (area of the White Brigade, Maaseik-Rotem Division). The chapel stands on the edge of the forest where the resistance hideout (code name "Anatol") was located. At the beginning of September 1944, several groups of resistance fighters ("Resistors") gathered here to fight alongside the advancing Allies against the German occupiers. The Germans got wind of the preparations (through betrayal) and raided the hideout. Dozens of resistance fighters were killed or captured. In the forest, crosses stand at the places where resistance fighters were shot.
