The old town hall is beautiful: an extraordinary half-timbered building. However, the despicable department store building on the square is an architectural nightmare.

From 1531 to 1782, the Gothic building complex on Unterm Heilig Kreuz Straße served as Fulda's town hall. This imposing timber-framed building boasts a history spanning almost 500 years. Built in 1531, it initially served as the council chamber and armory.

In 1782, however, the city council relocated to the Chancellor's Palace, situated opposite the city parish church. Later, they moved to the magnificent city palace.

Today, the Old Town Hall houses a fashion boutique.

The Old Town Hall, located right next to the city parish church on Borgiasplatz, is undoubtedly one of the most photographed buildings in the Baroque city.

It is a shining example of the Fulda residents' careful stewardship of their historic buildings.

Until the late 1960s, the building was rather unremarkable.

The imposing gable and the Gothic turrets had been lost over the centuries, and the second floor was covered with a simple hipped roof.
