The tower was originally built by the Beautification Association in Hildburghausen as Stadtbergturm. It was not until about 20 years later that the tower was renamed Bismarck Tower in honor of Bismarck's 90th birthday. The observation deck is open all day from April to October and offers a great view of the city and the surrounding countryside. Right next to the tower there is also a sitting area with several benches.
