The square was designed in 2008 in the form of an oversized record. The surface of the "record" consists of black granite stone into which stainless steel bands have been inserted, on which around 70 Beatles song titles are engraved. The Beatles are pictured during a live performance

The Beatles-Platz is a public square in Hamburg-St. Pauli in the course of the Reeperbahn and the Great Freedom junction, circular with a diameter of 29 meters and black flooring that is visually reminiscent of a vinyl record. Silhouette sculptures of the five Beatles musicians (including Stuart Sutcliffe, whose sculpture is positioned slightly apart from the other four) have been placed at the edge of the square. The figure of the drummer leaves open whether it is the later, well-known Beatles drummer Ringo Starr or Pete Best, who was active during most of the band's time in Hamburg. This square is intended to commemorate the importance of Hamburg in the history of the Beatles, where the cornerstone of their world career was laid. The design came from the architects Dohse & Stich and was awarded the contract in a public tender, ahead of a number of other competitors.

The Beatles fan doesn't necessarily associate the year 2008 with Hamburg and five musicians from Liverpool – other dates tend to come to mind. Around 1960, when the Beatles, especially John, Paul and George, performed for the first time in small clubs like the Indra or the Star Club along the Große Freiheit in St. Pauli.

However inconspicuous the year 2008 may be, it has a not inconsiderable reason for Hamburg: After a telethon, the long-awaited Beatles-Platz was inaugurated - and thus a piece of Liverpool was brought to the Hanseatic city.

A circular area with a diameter of almost 30 meters was converted into an oversized record – of course at the end of the Große Freiheit. In particular, the life-size metal outlines of the then five-piece band on the edge of the square offer an ideal backdrop for souvenir photos. The fact that some people let themselves be photographed in silhouette as supposed Ringo Starr, although what is actually meant is Pete Best, drummer from the early days, doesn't play a major role - the main thing is a Beatle!

The songs of the most famous mushroom heads in the world were engraved in the golden grooves of the square. The combo recorded the hits from 1962 without the fifth Beatle. Stuart Sutcliffe was already dedicating himself to his art.
