The corner tower is part of the old town fortifications and the walling of the former monastery district. The name Napoléon tower recalls the overnight stay of the French Emperor from October 28th to 29th, 1813 on his way back from the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig to Paris.

The corner tower on the south side of the monastery wall is also called the "Napoleon's Tower" in memory of his overnight stay in the monastery (October 28/29, 1813). The course of the monastery wall is documented in the oldest illustrations of the town of Schlüchtern (Meissner 1626, Merian 1646) and on city maps since the 17th century.
