'Candi Prambanan' is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and was dedicated to Trimurti, the expression of God as Creator (Brahma), Preserver (Vishnu) and Destroyer (Shiva). The temple was built in the early 9th century. Built by the Sanjaya dynasty, a thriving Hindu kingdom that shared the island with the Buddhist Saliendra dynasty. The temple complex is located just a few hundred meters south of ‘Candi Sewu’, a once impressive marvel of Buddhist art.
