Nieuw Leven Mill

This mill is located fairly close to both the castle and the old center of Leut (Maasmechelen) but, as you will notice on your walk, on the border with Meeswijk. Located on Molenstraat (yes) it is a wooden corn windmill that was part of the estate of the Vilain XIIII family. The original name of the mill is "De Wachter" and it was baptized "New Life" after thorough restoration.

There is an information board and people who want can rest behind the mill on one of the two benches with the fields of rural Maasmechelen behind them and of course the mill in front of them.

Mill 'Nieuw Leven' is a semi-open standard mill from 1801 that belonged to the Vilain XIIII family. In 1920 the mill became the property of the Eisden colliery and later the mill was bought by the municipality of Maasmechelen. It was listed as a historical monument as early as 1945 and is one of the oldest windmill types. In 1995 the mill was thoroughly restored. Miller Albert Van Hees keeps the mill running.

every first & third Sunday of the month from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and on request.

The wooden windmill 'Nieuw Leven' is located near the border of Meeswijk and Leut. An older mill was destroyed in 1800 during a hurricane. The current standard mill was built on the same spot in 1801.
