St. Martin's Church in Wichmannshausen is one of 13 Baroque churches in northern Hesse. The patron church of the noble von Boyneburgk family, it was built in the 13th century (the tower). The noble coat of arms can be seen in the gallery in front of the noble family's lodge.

The church was expanded in 1484 (upper floor) and 1702 (nave and half-timbered structure on the tower).

Its very bold paintings, as well as its rustic-Baroque decoration, make it a landmark among local churches.

The expressive cloud and starry sky painting on the ceiling, which was applied during a renovation in 1968, is quite extreme. Opinions differ somewhat on this point.
