Zella has about 500 inhabitants. The place is on the Schwalm.
The village is mentioned for the first time in 1224. The name of the village is derived from Cella, a monastic settlement from which farms and villages were derived. During the Thirty Years' War, the village was completely burned down by the imperial troops of General Hans Rudolf von Breda on November 14, 1640, the day before the battle at Riebelsdorfer Berg, as was Niederlimitebach, Steina, Leimbach, Loshausen, Ransbach, and Salmshausen.
On December 31, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse Willingshausen merged with Merzhausen and Zella to form the municipality of Antrefftal, which was combined with five other places to form a larger municipality on January 1, 1974. The new community gave itself the name Willingshausen, but the community administration was settled in the Wasenberg district.
