The Roman open-air museum in Hechingen-Stein covers a large area where excavations have uncovered a villa rustica with several buildings, a temple area and a bathhouse. Due to the location on a main Roman road and also the temple area with small temples in honor of various gods, it is assumed that this was more of an inn. Some of the buildings and temples have been reconstructed so that one can get an idea of what such a villa rustica looked like and how it was used in the past. The archaeologists are also hoping to gain insights into this. It is assumed that further finds can be made outside the area.
From the restored terrace there is a beautiful view of Hohenzollern Castle, the ancestral seat of the House of Hohenzollern and thus of Prussia and the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II.
