Hiking
The most important commemorative moments in Ghent still take place on this perk on Achtmeiplein. The purpose of this site is to commemorate all Ghent dead of both world wars. Not a single name is mentioned, so as not to forget anyone.
The monument was unveiled on June 3, 1956. It is a design by architect Geo Bontinck.

Use was made of the old columns of the former South Station, which have probably been here since 1932 and which form the background of the monument since 1956. In 1968 an 'eternal flame' was placed.
