The church was first mentioned in 1253 and was once the seat of a Johanniter family who had large property in the surrounding towns: in both Mossau, Rehbach, Steinbuch, Gersprenz, Ober-Kainsbach and Langen-Brombach. The Order of St. John settled here at the instigation of the Erbach taverns and the construction of the church probably goes back to them. The order withdrew at the time of the Reformation and the church became Protestant. The parish was dissolved in 1557 and only re-established in 1849. (Wikipedia)
