The Friedenskirche has stood by the ship lift for more than 100 years. It is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Vest Recklinghausen. Originally inaugurated as the "Prayer Hall of the Evangelical Community of Waltrop-Datteln" in 1901, today's Friedenskirche was for many decades the place of worship and official acts such as weddings and baptisms. Here, 100 years ago, the evangelical sewer workers created a place for worship and meeting. In the last few months the Friedenskirche has been renovated and rebuilt. The parish and parish have thought together about the future of the church. Protected as a monument, it remained almost unchanged from the outside. But when you enter the interior, a surprise awaits the visitor: the church is still a church of worship. But it is more than that. It has now also become the home of inland shipping pastoral care.

The left upwards in the direction of Walltrop and Datteln along the canal. Unfortunately, I did not get to the end of the cycle path because it is blocked by a construction site. It is important that you cannot cross the Dortmund-Ems Canal in the direction of Datteln, as indicated on the map, because the bridge is completely closed due to construction work. The detour for the bike path was very well signposted. Since I wanted to go back to Dortmund Mengede, I then drove on the country road, which had no cycle path except for about 1.5 km to the Dormund-Ems Canal and then drove to the next bridge, changed the canal side and then drove back to the starting point . The route was about 32km and was very easy to drive. Some of the cycle paths were gravel, paved or even asphalted. Provide drinks and food because there is nothing to stop off.
