Pamukkale (Turkish for cotton castle/cotton castle) is a natural site in the Denizli province of south-west Turkey. Pamukkale got its name from the calcareous sinter terraces that have been formed by calcareous thermal springs over thousands of years and are a tourist attraction. The terraces are on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with the archeological site of the ancient Greek city of Hierapolis above them.
