At the beginning of the 19th century, Lieutenant Colonel von Avemann was the owner of this house. From 1836 to 1940 the building housed various schools, after which it served residential purposes and was later used for municipal facilities. In 1987 the Reichskammergerichtsmuseum was set up here.
Goethe's handwritten entry of May 25, 1772 in the court's intern register is exhibited here as a facsimile.
