Until 1867, Slotsgade did not belong to the municipality of Aabenraa, but to Brundlund Castle. The residents of the street were mainly craftsmen and servants employed in the castle, but the street was also attractive to others, as a more favorable tax base applied here than in the market town of Aabenraa.
