Slotsgade (Castle Street) was created in the 15th century in connection with the construction of Brundlund Castle. The buildings that can still be seen today date from around 1700, as the original houses were destroyed in a major fire.
Until 1867, Slotsgade did not belong to the municipality of Aabenraa, but to Brundlund Castle. The residents of the street were mainly craftsmen and servants employed in the castle, but the street was also attractive to others, as a more favorable tax base applied here than in the market town of Aabenraa. kunstiaabenraa.dk/media/4102144/tysk_marittimbyvandring-i-a-benra-_finalweb.pdf
