Nature reserve since: 1981
Protection purpose: Preservation of a section of the Elsenz Valley, in which both moist floodplain biotopes (meadows, willow bushes, reeds) and dry, warm habitats on the adjoining valley slope (stone bars, semi-dry grassland, fruit and field trees) occur.
Particularities:
Occurrence of the endangered meadow grasshopper, semi-dry grass up the slope with rare plants such as “real bedstraw”, “sweet tragacanth” or “small meadow button”.
Bats, woodpeckers and lizards should also be mentioned, as well as numerous butterflies such as the "lean-grass mother-of-pearl butterfly"
