The old post office at Torvet in Esbjerg is one of the most distinctive buildings in the city - with its completely unique architectural style - even when compared to the post offices of the time elsewhere in the country. When the post office was built in 1907 and 1908, Esbjerg was still a young, pioneering town with no architectural features and no historical buildings. Perhaps for the same reason, the architect Ulrik Plesner used elements of medieval buildings, castles and churches when he had to draw the lines at the post office.

Regardless of the architect's original intention, the post office helps give Torvet in Esbjerg a fantastic atmosphere and patina. When looking at the post office, the building makes a Gothic impression: a gable roof and gable roof and a dramatic facade facing the square. Two stepped gables characterize the main facade, while the stylish curved windows with small windows and strong, white frames complete the impression.

Despite its aging appearance, the post office housed innovative interior solutions when it was completed at the turn of the century.
