Petra (ancient Greek Πέτρα [ˈpɛtʁa] “rock, rock mass”, Arabic البتراء al-Batrā ’, Nabataean probably Reqmu“ the red ”), a ruin site in present-day Jordan, was the capital of the Nabataean empire in antiquity.
