In the middle of the 15th century, the expansion of Duderstadt in the area of the Neutor was planned, since the Benebenstadt was to be built between the Wall and the Wall. Economic stagnation and population decline prevented extensive settlement.
After the fire of 1424, a new wall opening was created in 1436, the Inner Neutor. This gave access to the planned Benebenstadt. With the construction of the wall (around 1500) this new part of the city was secured. The outer Neutor secured access to the city from the former road to Pöhlde and Herzberg.
