East Frisia hiking trailoldest and longest hiking trailThe flat, wide landscape awaits you in East Frisia, decorated with fehn canals and windmills. The route leads from the green inland to the beautiful coast. At 97 km, the East Frisia hiking trail is the longest and oldest hiking trail in East Frisia and leads along a former small railway line. The 24 artistically designed scouring post sculptures that line the path are a special hiking experience. Scuffing posts are usually placed in pastures for cattle and horses to rub against. The idea of transforming such poles into art objects was born in Schleswig-Holstein in 1998. Gerd Neumann, former head of the vocational schools in Aurich, saw the poles and was impressed by them. The East Frisia hiking trail takes you across East Frisia: You hike from Rhauderfehn via Ihrhove-Westoverledingen, the town of Leer, Hesel, the town of Aurich, Esens to Bensersiel.
